What is the Wellbeing College?

The Wellbeing College brings people together to explore resilience and promote positive mental health in the Scottish Borders.  Learning can happen through using resources available at the College hub, from attending courses and through linking with other students.  Our focus is on individual recovery, where each student will be able to choose methods of learning that best suit them and use this learning to become experts in their own self-care.

Who is the Wellbeing College for?

The College is for anyone over the age of 16 who lives in the Scottish Borders with an interest in mental health and wellbeing.  You do not need to have a diagnosed mental health problem or be referred by another agency.  If you think you would benefit from using the College, please contact us.  Carers and supporters of people living with mental health challenges are very welcome.

What courses are available at the College?

Please visit the Courses page to find out more

How many courses can I sign up for?

We recognise each student will have their own learning path - some students may only attend one course while others may benefit from attending more. We invite students to make an appointment to speak to one of our Personal Tutors to discuss how you can get the most out of the College.

How much do courses cost?

Courses are free of charge.  The only cost to you would come from funding your journey to and from the venue, as we regret we are unable to reimburse travel expenses.

What is a Personal Learning Plan?

The offer to develop your own Personal Learning Plan (PLP) is available at the Wellbeing College.  A PLP outlines your personal learning goals. You will be in control of your PLP, thinking about what you would like to learn through attending the college and hearing suggestions about courses and resources that might interest you from our friendly and helpful Personal Tutors.

Where is the Wellbeing College?

Our hub is based at the Hive, Low Buckholmside, Galashiels but we recognise the Borders as a large geographical area and therefore rent venues, allowing us to deliver courses in other areas of the Borders.

Can I gain qualifications by attending the Wellbeing College?

We support all levels of learning and offer courses ranging from basic information sessions to courses run over a number of weeks where students have the option of working towards a qualification.

What resources are available at the hub?

We have purchased resources for the college after consulting potential students and people working in mental health services.  We have a range of books and magazines as well as computers where you can access the internet to support your learning.  We are always interested to hear about materials others have used and found helpful and welcome people to share their ideas with us.

How do I book a course?

You can book a course through our website here. We will receive an email to alert us to your booking request and we will respond to you as soon as possible.  You can also request a place on a course by calling us on 01896 807000.
